Which tripod height do you actually need?
Almost everyone buys a tripod that is too short, discovers the limitation a month later, and buys a second one. Here is how to skip that step.
Height is the only spec that matters at this price
Below about ৳3,000, tripods are all aluminium, all take a standard 1/4" screw, and all hold a phone perfectly well. What separates them is how tall they get, and that determines which shots you can take at all.
Everything else — leg locks, bag, head design — is a comfort difference. Height is a capability difference.
Match the height to the shot
- Desk and tabletop, seated → 20–45cm desk stand
- Talking to camera, standing → 150cm
- Shooting down at a table or a cooking surface → 180cm
- Lighting from above, or overhead product shots → 280cm
The mistake almost everyone makes
A 150cm tripod reaches your eye level when you stand, which feels like enough. Then you try to film a product on a table and discover the camera needs to be above the table, pointing down — and a tripod that only reaches your eyes cannot do it.
If you sell anything, or film anything on a surface, buy the taller one first.
You still need a phone clamp
A tripod has a 1/4" screw and a phone does not. The clamp is a separate purchase and it is worth spending ৳399 instead of ৳250 on it — the double-pull mechanism grips from both sides and holds a large phone in a case, which the basic clip does not always manage.
It is the cheapest part of the setup and the only one that can drop your phone.
When a selfie stand is the better buy
If you shoot away from home, a stand that collapses to selfie-stick length and comes with a bag beats a full tripod that lives in a corner. You will use the one you actually carry.
